On July 11, 2022 - the crew of Paramedic 436 returned from a call at a Drexel Heights residence, they asked if there was anything that could be done for the resident who lived there, an elderly female with no family, and surviving on very little income. The crew reported that the lady’s air conditioner was completely out of service. They were truly worried with the current heat spell, that the resident would not do well.
At first, as a crew, they were going to all chip in and purchase her an AC unit. Then contact was made with Firefighter Local 3504 and together they worked out a plan to help. Members of Station 403, B shift and another firefighter working his normal day off, got together and purchased her a new AC unit with the Local 3504 assistance. A huge thanks to LOWES for providing a great deal on the AC unit and to Local 3504 for purchasing it. After the unit was picked up from the store, the crew went to work and installed it for the lady. They saw the need and responded all in the same day! True heroes.
